There is no wealth shaming here
Hey Gorgeous!
I'm always on team make as much money as you damn well please.*
AND it's important to recognize that we live in a racist, sexist, heteronormative, colonialist, capitalist society that serves and protects the rich and criminalizes the poverty state (on which that wealth is/was built and then passed down generation after generation).
(Why yes, my background is in Social Work. Thanks for asking.)
So I get that most (all) of us have very mixed feelings about MONEY.
Some much more than others, and rightfully so.
But having been in the online entrepreneurial space for over ten years now, I can honestly say that the entrepreneurs I hang with are *deeply* concerned about doing what's right, fair, and just.
And I love you for it. You are my people.
So let me remind you of something I remind my clients of periodically when it comes to making MONEY:
1. FIRST AND FOREMOST, YOU ARE ALLOWED TO WANT WHAT YOU WANT. PERIOD. Without explanation. Ever.
((But sometimes we get a little weirded out about pricing, positioning, marketing, and of course, SELLING, because we've all grown up in a toxic stew when it comes to money. And I want to remind you of your own highly ethical nature because sometimes you may forget that . . . ))
2. Of COURSE you're not gonna make it off the backs of others.
3. Of COURSE you're gonna put that money into the economy where it matters most.
4. Of COURSE you're gonna enjoy yourself and help others do the same.
5. Of COURSE you're going use that money to support other small businesses that *also* make the world a better place.
6. Of COURSE your financial stability helps you heal from GENERATIONS of financial trauma and conditioning.
7. Of COURSE you're building a legacy for your family and your community for generations to come.
Money is a TOOL.
And only a handful of people have a goddamn Home Depot's worth of tools at their disposal.
I am not evenly remotely ok with that.
(*I am aware of what I wrote at the top of this post.)
You could/should be making more money.
Period.
It's more than ok to have more than enough. When YOU make more money, you're making this fucked up world more equitable.
And Sweet Baby Jesus do we need more of THAT.
xo
